December 5, 2009 - Along with more than 40 knockdown fighters, Sensei Mariusz Janicki of World Kanreikai Karate Headquarters traveled to Rochester to take part in the "Ring Wars 2009 - Extreme Kyokushin Tournament". This Knockdown Fighting event, organized by Sensei Rene Cruz of New York-IKO, was open to all karate styles and featured "one match" fights that took place inside an elevated professional boxing ring.

Sensei Mariusz, who was matched against a Rochester favorite, gave a remarkable performance from start to finish. He dominated his opponent during the whole fight, displaying great skill and stamina that got the crowd roaring. After having delivered numerous heavy blows to the body, Mariusz signed his victory with a solid knee kick to the head with one minute left into the third and last 3-minute round.
