SHIHAN JOSE COTTON

NYC Kanreikai Karate

Shihan Jose Cotton, 6th dan, started his martial arts training under Soshu Shigeru Oyama at World Oyama Headquarters in NYC in 1986. He holds World Championship titles in Heavyweight and Open Full Contact Karate. He was an original member of the Oyama Karate Full Contact Team and was a very successful fighter taking part in tournaments in the United States, Europe, Canada and Japan.

Shihan Jose then served as head coach of the Oyama Karate Full Contact team and taught regular and fighting classes at NYC Oyama Headquarters for several years. In 2004, he was Sensei Michelle Gay's chief trainer and coach for the premiere event of " A Woman's Right to Fight".

When World Oyama Headquarters closed in 2004, Shihan Jose, along with Sensei Michelle Gay, Shihan David Sheeger and Sensei Maria Van Dessel, joined the newly formed World Kanreikai Karate Organization. He has since been running the NYC Kanreikai Karate School, where students are exposed to traditional martial arts.

Shihan Jose is an active Advisory Board Member for the Society for Martial Arts.
